My Experience Purchasing A 383 Stroker And Why My Story May Shock You…

If you’re on this website right now you probably already know what a 383 stroker is, and you probably want to find the highest quality engine, and best deal you can possibly find. And I completely understand!

If you don’t want to read on, and just want the best deal and highest quality 383 strokers, just click here to go to DirtSmart.com (my personal recommendation). Otherwise keep reading…

Most likely you already know what makes a 383 stroker a 383 stroker.

But just in case, here’s a quick explanation:

This is a 383 stroker

A 383 stroker basically is a Chevy 350 block with an altered crankshaft.

The reason why the crankshaft is altered is to increase the *stroke* of the pistons. This alteration allows you to get more air and gas into the cylinders.

Performing this alteration increases the displacement without having to change the engine block. Which is pretty cool.

I think these engines rock, and really wanted to get myself one. But where do you find someone who knows enough to build a quality stroker? Or where do you purchase one at all really? There’s not a whole lot of good or reliable information out there.  I was completely lost.

After searching around on the internet I found a few “iffy” looking sites with overpriced products. And I also found a few really stripped down cruddy looking engines for “discount” prices, but I wanted a *quality* engine, and one that would run awesome, not break down on me, or require tons of upfront work when I got it.

I got some referrals from my friends and family of local shops (and I knew a few myself.) I spoke with a ton of them, and truthfully, most of them said they *could* build a 383 stroker, but upon a bit of questioning they really didn’t know what they were talking about, and probably just wanted extra business.

Also, most of the local mechanics quoted me either way too much, or way too little.

Upon further investigation, usually the smaller quotes didn’t include all the parts they would need, or they underestimated on the time it would take to build the engine. And I’ve heard horror stories of the engine build taking much longer than anticipated… And don’t think you*won’t* pay for the extra time. That unexpected extra “build time” will come out of *your* pocket, not theirs.

Car mechanics don't always know how to build engines

Most car mechanics don't know how to build engines.

So… I was kind of in a bad place. I couldn’t find a reputable online source, my local shops were all over the board and obviously didn’t really know what they were doing. And I had no real other way of figuring out how to get an engine…

Right when I was about to give up I was speaking to my nephew and he has some self proclaimed “Mad Google Skillz.” He said he’d look into my 383 stroker “dilemma” for me and try and find a reputable place, and he said he’d make sure to cross reference anything he found and make sure they were legit and produce high quality stuff.

I didn’t think he’d find anything, but in a couple days he came back with DirtSmart.com and these 383 strokers.

He told me that he did some research and they’re a great company that builds incredible engines. And their head “guy” is actually an ASE certified gold master engine builder. And their prices are right on. Bamm! That’s what I wanted.

I called them up, and right away it was apparent that they knew what they were doing. Way more than any local guys I had spoken with.

Their website was actually respectable, and they were extremely friendly and didn’t dodge any questions. I was sold and grabbed myself the 460 horsepower 383 stroker they offer.

What’s really cool is their customer service. They don’t advertise this on their site (or didn’t when I bought) but they actually email you pictures while your engine is being built.

They deliver it straight to your door too, and have a fork lift and the whole deal so they can plop it right into your garage. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

The engine is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L too. Ahh! I can’t believe it, it not only looks like a dream, but it purrs like a kitten on steroids, and growls like a lion. I love it!

Anyhow, enough sucking up.

I just thought that everyone should know about DirtSmart.com if you’re going to get an engine built. I can only speak from the perspective of a 383 stroker, but my gut says their other engines are just as good if you’re in the market for a different type.

But do yourself a favor and check out DirtSmart.com’s selection of 383 strokers today. You won’t regret it.
